Guided Tour at the Cap Arcona Museum

Melanie Zühlke will lead a guided tour of the Cap Arcona Museum in Neustadt im Holstein on Thursday, October 8, 2026.
The name of the ship, Cap Arcona, symbolizes the events of May 3, 1945, in Neustadt Bay: In the early morning hours of May 3, 1945, two ships carrying women, men, and children from the Stutthof concentration camp ran aground. The prisoners were forced to march from the beach to the Neustadt naval base. During the march, hundreds of them were shot by Nazis. In the early afternoon, British fighter-bombers attacked ships carrying concentration camp prisoners anchored in the bay. Approximately 7,000 concentration camp prisoners died in the attack. The pilots were unaware that thousands of concentration camp prisoners were on board.
